I pretty much packed up my desk yesterday. The great part about not having anything personal at the desk, is I don’t have that much to pack. I think the only things I didn’t throw away were all of my TCU posters, an F-35 memento, and a U-2 decorative pocket knife.
I’m just taking a leave of absence for a year. We’ll see what happens to the career when I get back. I’ve applied and interviewed for a program called FLDP — Finance Leadership Development Program. If I get in, I’ll essentially have a new job every year for three years. I’ll also be forced to get my MBA, which is what it’ll take to get me back to school. I’m not sure where I’ll go. The chances are I’ll try and get into TCU. Supposedly it’s not a good idea to get an MBA from the school where you get your undergrad degree. I don’t think I care. If tools who get their MBA without having worked a single day in their lives have an eduaction advantage over me, I’ll take my chances getting a second degree at TCU.
My job in overhead controls was a great place to start. I got a good overview of the company and an idea of our cost structure. I was pretty lucky to land a job with a good job and good people to work with. Lockheed is one of those places where people you meet ask, “I know a guy that works there….do you know Ralph Heath?” I always say, “Are they in accounting or finance? No? I probably don’t know them.” I do know that I’ve built a ton of relationships where our team has been energized to lead change and driven to achive results in a moral and ethical way by respecting and appreciating how our differences makes us unique and valuable to the company.
To those in overhead, keep it real and, keep the company within its overhead rates and keep David grounded, but don’t hastle him about seeing so many football games. We all need our passions.

We are keeping it real… so I can’t refrain from the occasional UTEP comment every time I get hit with some unknown expense. A coffee mug only goes so far you know. I think George may be a bit lost without you and I am amazed at the vacant CLEAN desk starring back at me. I felt comfort in knowing I wasn’t the only messy person in the group. Oh well. Hope all is well with you.
